Ministers of State Catherine Byrne & Pat Breen jointly launch the Postgraduate Certificate in Workplace Wellness

Minister of State Catherine Byrne TD and Minister of State Pat Breen TD have jointly launched the Postgraduate Certificate in Workplace Wellness with the National University of Ireland Galway under the auspices of Healthy Ireland.

The development of the Healthy Workplace Framework is a priority action under the Healthy Ireland agenda and is a joint initiative between the Departments of Health and Business, Enterprise and Innovation.

The two Departments provided seed funding to NUIG to develop the postgraduate course which aims to help build capacity and share best practice.

Minister Byrne said, "This is an example of Healthy Ireland in action and I am very pleased to be working in partnership with my colleagues in Business, Enterprise and Innovation. With almost two million people in employment in Ireland, this means that healthy workplace initiatives can potentially reach over half the population."

Minister Breen said, "A healthy workplace provides multiple benefits for employees and employers, as well as broader social and economic gains and the level of interest in this course is an indicator of increased awareness in relation to health and wellbeing in the workplace.”

The course has attracted interest from both the public and private sectors and 35 students have been allocated places for the academic year 2017/2018 .

Course participants will gain skills and competencies for the effective implementation of evidence-based health promotion interventions and project management so they can deliver programmes in their workplaces.

The course will be delivered over three semesters using a blended learning model and is underpinned by international evidence.
