LinkedIn Ireland expands to 2,000 people, as Irish membership hits 2,000,000

LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional social network, has marked the milestone of growing its Irish membership to two million people by announcing that it will grow its headcount to 2,000 people at its Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America (EMEA-LATAM) HQ in Wilton Place in Dublin by summer next year as a result of ongoing expansion of its business activities in more than 60 countries across the region which are hubbed in Ireland.

This follows last year’s announcement that LinkedIn has signed a lease with IPUT plc, Ireland’s premier property fund, for a new 150,000 sq ft development at One Wilton Park, which is due for completion in late 2020 to facilitate its future potential growth requirements. LinkedIn will also continue to use its recently constructed building at Wilton Place.

Recruitment for the new positions has already commenced, with LinkedIn already growing its headcount from 1,200 people to 1,600 people today since its last expansion announcement, and there are already over 100 open roles available in areas such as sales, marketing, customer service, finance and analytics.

Recognising that Ireland is reaching full employment and following a recent report from SOLAS that there are 16,000 women on ‘home duties’ with the potential to return to the workplace, LinkedIn is also renewing its acclaimed ‘Returnin’ programme, piloted last year, which provides customised support for people returning to employment after taking time out or the workforce to look after children or act as a carer. From today, all of the company’s open roles in Ireland encourage applications from returners, and customised support will be offered to successful candidates based on their needs.

Welcoming the announcement Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys TD said: “I am delighted to see this announcement from LinkedIn which reaffirms their commitment to Ireland and Dublin’s position as the Digital Capital of Europe. I am particularly pleased that LinkedIn’s Returnin scheme will provide extra support for those seeking to return to the workforce after taking a career break to look after children or acting as a carer.  It is also encouraging to see a vibrant community of two million Irish members using the professional network to find jobs and drive business opportunities. I would like to wish the company well and look forward to our mutually beneficial relationship continuing to develop in the years ahead.”

Sharon McCooey, Head of LinkedIn Ireland, said: “Our growth in Ireland continues at a phenomenal pace, both as an employer, but also as a tool that two million Irish professionals have come to rely on to develop their careers and find their next job. Our Irish office has become our second largest site in the world, after our global HQ, and our Irish members are some of the most active and engaged on our platform. We’re hugely grateful to the Government, the IDA, and the people of Dublin, for their support which has enabled us to grow from a team of three people to 2,000 over a decade.”

Welcoming the announcement Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland said “LinkedIn’s ability to grow its team in Dublin at such an impressive rate in recent years is a great endorsement of not only the talented workforce in the region, but also the availability of world-class commercial property in Dublin. This is yet another significant investment by the company in the country and clearly demonstrates LinkedIn’s long-term commitment to Ireland.”
