Call for Expression of Interest – Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE) invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals for membership of the Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce.

The Shannon Estuary Economic Taskforce will:

  1. Assess the strategic strengths of the Shannon Estuary from an investment and enterprise development perspective, in a national and international context;
  2. Scope potential areas of opportunity for the Shannon Estuary and specify policy and investment requirements to exploit those areas of potential;
  3. Assess the current connectivity of the region and make recommendations as to how this could be enhanced;
  4. Specify the actions required from national and local government, as well as from other stakeholders, to exploit those areas of potential; and
  5. Produce a Report and associated Action Plan with specific steps in areas of potential to be considered by Government.

The Taskforce will be supported in its work by a secretariat from DETE with input and expertise as appropriate from relevant Government Departments, State Agencies and Local Authorities.

The Programme for Government – Our Shared Future – specifically identifies that the Taskforce will consider the regional economic development potential of the Shannon Estuary across transport and logistics, manufacturing, renewable energy and tourism. Reflecting this, the Department welcomes expressions of interest from individuals who possess the following expertise and experience:

  • Familiarity with the economic challenges and opportunities relevant to the Shannon Estuary area;
  • A proven track-record at a senior level of identifying key strategic challenges and addressing them through targeted interventions working collaboratively with a range of public and private stakeholders;
  • A working knowledge across at least one of the following economic sectors: transport, logistics, manufacturing, renewable energy and tourism.

Expressions of interest should be submitted via email to the address provided below, and should include the following documentation:

  1. CV
  2. A statement of suitability for membership of the Taskforce, briefly outlining how you fulfil the above criteria (approximately 300 words).

Individuals expressing an interest in membership of the Taskforce should also indicate if they would like to be considered for the position of Chair.

It is anticipated that between 5 to 10 individuals will be selected for membership of the Taskforce through the expressions of interest process.

The Department encourages applications from diverse, qualified candidates to ensure the Taskforce is a true reflection of Irish society and shall have regard to the desirability for gender balance, diversity and inclusion on the Taskforce.

Membership of the Taskforce shall be on a voluntary basis. Members may have reasonable vouched expenses reimbursed if they incur transport costs relating to their attendance at Taskforce meetings.
