Who We Are

PIAB Liaison Unit

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) is Ireland’s independent State body which assesses personal injuries compensation in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

PIAB assesses compensation in respect of personal injuries suffered by people in motor accidents, workplace accidents and public liability accidents. All personal injury claims must come through PIAB, unless settled early between claimants and insurers/respondents.

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) was established on 13 April 2004 pursuant to the Personal Injuries Assessment Act 2003, as part of the Government’s insurance reform programme.

At the time of its establishment PIAB was one of the key initiatives in reforming the process of the delivery of compensation in personal injury cases. It has resulted in a significant reduction in both the timeframe for delivery of an award and the costs involved in delivery.
