Cook Medical celebrates 20 years in Limerick

- Newly appointed Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor visits to mark milestone - Company lodge planning application for new office space with ‘data centre’ at its Limerick headquarters - Company currently recruiting for 40 vacancies in Limerick

Cook Medical, one of the largest privately held global medical technology companies, is this year celebrating 20 years in Ireland.

Established in 1996 the company develop, manufacture and distribute medical devices to customers across Europe, the Middle-East and Africa.

Employing 880 people in Ireland and specialising in the development of urology, obstetrics, gynaecology and gastroenterology medical devices, the company exports worldwide from its Limerick facility.

The company has added 200 people in the past two years and is currently recruiting for 40 vacancies in the areas of IT, Engineering, Data Protection, Manufacturing, Marketing and Customer Service.

Visiting Cook Medical in Limerick today (Thursday), newly appointed Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor, congratulated the team on 20 years of success in Limerick.

Speaking at Cook Medical today while on day two of a trade and investment mission in Ireland, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor said:

‘I’m delighted to join Bill and his team in Cook Medical today in marking 20 years of success in Ireland. The Med Tech sector is a growing sector in Ireland as Ireland becomes a central hub for the med tech industry.  I welcome Cook Medical’s ongoing commitment to Ireland and Limerick and would encourage more companies to choose our regions as a base as I want to ensure that we encourage more job creation right across the country. I wish Cook Medical all the best for the next 20 years.’

Headquartered in Indiana, US, Cook Group employs over 12, 000 people worldwide. The company provides minimally invasive technologies that are designed to reduce the need for open surgery for patients worldwide.

Speaking today, Bill Doherty, Executive Vice President, EMEA at Cook Medical said:

Cook Medical recently lodged a planning application with Limerick City and County Council to develop a new facility at the National Technology Park, O’Halloran Road, Limerick. The planning application consists of a new three storey facility including office space and a data centre on the 2.7 hectare site opposite its current headquarters.

‘If successful, the planning application means that Cook Medical will be capable of expanding its operations when required in the future,’ Mr Doherty said.

Ireland, the second largest employer of MedTech professionals in Europe with over 27,000 people employed in the sector here, is home to 18 of the world’s top 25 medical technology companies.
