Affero Lab establishes European Operations Centre in Dublin

Brazilian e-learning company to create 40 new jobs

Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton TD today (Tuesday) announced that Affero Lab, a Rio de Janeiro headquartered e-learning company is establishing its European Operations Centre in Dublin. The Centre, which will provide 40 highly skilled jobs, will focus on research and development, enhancing and developing the company’s technologies in the areas of adaptive learning, gamification, mobile learning and data analytics. In addition, the company will employ sales and support staff to support the company’s clients in Europe, North America, the Middle East and Asia.

The investment is supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland.

Making the announcement Minister Bruton said “In recent years as part of the Action Plan for Jobs we have targeted increased trade and investment links with fast-growing emerging companies across the world, including Brazil. As part of this drive we have put in place a range of measures including a substantial increase in trade missions abroad. Today’s announcement that Affero Lab, a Brazilian e-learning company, is establishing its European operations centre in Dublin with the creation of 40 jobs is great news, and I wish Fabio and his team every success with this project”. 

Fabio Barcellos, Affero Lab Chief Strategy Officer, commented that “Affero Lab has identified Ireland as a leading innovation hub for e-learning companies and a source of first rate software and engineering skills. The European Operations Centre in Dublin will play an essential role in Affero Lab’s internationalisation strategy, leveraging our investments in innovative products and technologies and supporting us to grow our revenues in new, international markets outside of Latin America. I would like to thank the IDA for supporting us to establish this operation.” 

Commenting on the announcement Martin Shanahan, CEO, IDA Ireland said “Ireland’s e-learning cluster, particularly in the indigenous sector, is renowned for its innovation and high quality output and Affero Lab will add significantly to this cluster. I welcome the company’s participation in the Learnovate Centre, an industry-led centre of excellence for innovation and research in learning technologies, funded by IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland. Affero Lab is IDA Ireland’s first client from Brazil and I hope that the investment will act as a strong reference point for IDA as we work to attract more investment from this growth market.”
