22nd October 2026
The Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke today published two reports arising from the public consultation on the development of a Tourist Accommodation Strategy.
The reports provide a comprehensive overview of the views expressed during the consultation process and will help inform the development of a long-term strategy to support a sustainable, resilient and competitive tourist accommodation sector across Ireland.
The first report presents a summary of the responses received through the public consultation, while the second sets out the key findings and insights emerging from the consultation process.
The public consultation, which was open from 27 April to 29 May 2026, sought views from members of the public, tourism businesses, accommodation providers, representative bodies, local authorities and other stakeholders on the future development of Ireland's tourist accommodation sector.
A total of 299 responses were received through the online survey, with additional submissions received from stakeholder organisations. The reports provide both quantitative analysis of survey responses and qualitative analysis of the views and observations submitted by participants.
Publishing the reports, Minister Burke said:
"I would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in this important consultation. The responses received demonstrate the strong interest in the future development of Ireland's tourist accommodation sector and provide valuable insights on the opportunities and challenges facing the industry.
The publication of these reports is an important milestone in the development of a Tourist Accommodation Strategy. The views expressed by respondents will help ensure that the strategy is informed by a broad range of perspectives and supports the sustainable development of accommodation capacity across the country."
The consultation sought feedback on a range of issues, including accommodation supply and demand, regional development, sustainability, innovation, accessibility, barriers to investment and future accommodation needs.
The findings highlight a range of perspectives and priorities across the sector and will contribute to the evidence base underpinning the development of the Tourist Accommodation Strategy.
The strategy will seek to support the continued growth and competitiveness of Irish tourism while ensuring that accommodation development contributes positively to local communities, regional tourism development, and environmental sustainability.
